The British Association of Critical Care Nurses (BACCN) is a professional association dedicated to the advancement of critical care nursing in the UK. The 38th Annual BACCN Conference took place in Nottingham in September 2023 and was themed Recovery, Restoration and Sustainability, reflecting the profession’s focus on workforce recovery, resilience and long-term sustainability following the pandemic.

Delivered over two days, the conference welcomed critical care nurses and healthcare professionals from across the UK to share knowledge, explore innovation and engage in collaborative discussion. The programme featured keynote lectures, peer-reviewed paper sessions, panel discussions and poster presentations covering topics including leadership, workforce retention, rehabilitation, wellbeing, renal therapies and the translation of evidence into clinical practice.

The conference opened with a welcome reception and included a themed conference dinner, providing valuable opportunities for networking and peer connection. A strong emphasis was placed on social responsibility, with a charity initiative supporting Nurse Lifeline, reinforcing BACCN’s commitment to the wellbeing and mental health of the nursing workforce.

Supported by Conference Partner LINET UK, the BACCN Annual Conference 2023 provided an inspiring setting for professional development while celebrating the contribution of critical care nurses. The event reinforced BACCN’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity, sustainability and excellence in critical care nursing, empowering delegates to drive positive change within their services.
